Shimeji Instructions
Shimeji is a program that creates little chibi characters that walk around on your desktop, and will sit around and do cute animations. Due to the simplicity of the program a lot of people have created their own shimejis of beloved characters and uploaded to the internet as .rar and .zip files. Here are some basic instructions on how to get you some adorable minions of your own, but remember: I did not create this and therefore have no ownership of it.
Firstly, the original program, which you can download here:
http://shimeji-ee.googlecode.com/files/Shimeji-ee_1.0.3_Mischievous.zip
Don’t forget to unzip it! It has some basic guys in it, which you can use to test the program out. To run it, you must:
- open the folder
- find the .exe, which has a monitor icon with a face on it. It looks like this:

- double click it. A window should pop up. from there you can select which ones you wan to appear, and then hit one of the buttons at the bottom of the window
I imagine, however, that you’ll be wanting your own custom shimejis. Those are usually downloaded as .rar files (none of the zip ones I’ve seen have worked for me), so you’ll be needing a program to extract them with. This one here is free:
after downloading this program, right click the .rar file you downloaded and select open with —> 7-zip. It’ll open a window, and you can extract the file with a button at the top. After that you should get a folder with the same name as the .rar.This folder works the same as the original program; you go in and and select the .exe with the monitor with a face.

That’s the basics of it, but if you have any questions or links to any shimeji, here’s the ones I have:

Frequently Asked Questions:
:O Wait, I can’t find the “.exe” file. Is it supposed to be in the first download?
Assuming you’ve unzipped the file (by right clicking and selecting extract all), yes. it should be in the folder inside the folder folderception.
Is it possible to turn them off?
if you right click them and then select byebye (or the word in japanese, which it usually is if it’s a custom made one, more often than not), you can make them disappear, which is helpful for population control, since they multiply.
If you have any other problems, feel free to ask, but I’m not the creator of this program, so I can’t help you with anything besides some troubleshooting and setup.
